Chris Gotti Talks About Ashanti “Respecting” His Brother’s Legacy

Chris Gotti made his case on the ‘Let’s Keep It 100’ podcast, nearly an hour into the recent interview. Starting at the 56:40 mark, he suggested she’s been brushing off Irv Gotti’s impact on her.

“For her to act like it ain’t Murder Inc. that made her is fucking bullshit—or Irv made her, it’s crazy,” he said. “Like, something with y’all chemistry worked out! Respect it. That’s all. Not saying you have to talk about the n***a, but respect the magic that was made. That’s all I said.”

He then explained that he won’t allow anyone to “talk about” his brother and plans to take up his views now that Irv is gone. Chris also claimed that he witnessed Irv help Ashanti find her sound and “made her career.”

“Like, I was there. He made you sing records the way you sang them ‘cause you would’ve never sang it that way if it was up to you.”

What Ashanti Said Following Irv Gotti’s Death

Irv Gotti passed away on February 5, and it took Ashanti a few weeks to publicly comment on his death. In an interview with Angie Martinez, published on February 28, the singer explained that his death made her sad, given how unexpected it was. For her, it was “a lot to process.” In their conversation, Angie credited her for her classy response to the passing.

“It was a lot of different feelings and emotions, you know… and I think honestly, what I said is how I feel… I was really sad, and I’m still sad it ended like this because there was a time when things were like amazing,” Ashanti shared.

Ultimately, the former Murder Inc. artist said she wanted peace for Irv Gotti and herself. Despite Chris Gotti’s viewpoint, she also credited him and thanked Irv for what they created and what he did for her career. She even said she had hoped to one day have better energy between them, and admitted that she tried to make it happen.

“I really wanted it to happen,” Ashanti said. “… Like I said, we made history together so that is infinite… and I’m sad that the last few years we weren’t seeing eye to eye. [But] what I do know is that I tried. I do know that I extended the olive branch… I just wanted things to be cool!”

Social Media Sounds Off Over Gotti’s Comments

As mentioned, Ashanti hasn’t commented on Chris Gotti’s statement, but social media is stunned and calling him out for carrying his brother’s energy in this manner. In The Shade Room’s comment section alone, over 11,000 reactions poured in, and folks were just as taken aback on X (formerly Twitter), chile!
